About the Performers

Singer-songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist Robert Bruey grew up in rural New England and lives on Long Island’s North Fork. His roots and how tRobert Brueyhey have helped to shape him are reflected in the original music on his sophomore released CD, Silver Burning Sky and are even more evident during a live performance. Robert Bruey’s music is honest and real, raw and meaningful, gritty and naturalistic. His unique finger-picking style -- with notes carefully left alone to be heard in the moment -- provides a perfect complement for his earthy, soulful voice and the meaningful, introspective lyrics of his songs. Robert paints with words, imbuing his songs with imagery that enables listeners to visualize his stories as he sings them.

Sam Raia press photo

Sam Raia is a bite-sized singer-songwriter from the North Shore of Long Island that has been growing a following by performing in several coffee shops around the Island including The Grind Café in Wading River and Roast Coffee and Tea Trading Co. in Patchogue. Inspired by Indie-Pop artist Ingrid Michaelson and Folk artist Dallas Green, Sam Raia describes her music as “Indie-Folk”. Sam’s lyrics are inspired by personal experience and reflect who she is and what she believes and are delivered with a voice that is equal parts sweetness and sorrow.

Brendan Moynihan photo

Brendan Moynihan is a multi-instrumentalist who is well known for the bass guitar work he lends to many different Long Island based bands and also as an accomplished studio musician. When not lending his instrumental talents to other musicians, Brendan writes songs of his own to that are inspired by Beatlesque pop and shares a style with an artist he happens to share a name with in Brendan Benson. His appearance at the Plaza Songwriter Series will be a special solo outing for Mr. Moynihan letting him showcase his original material.
