Bren Smith is on the vanguard of a major change in how we eat. A former commercial fisherman, Smith pioneered the development of restorative 3D ocean farming and now farms seaweed, oysters, mussels and clams, and scallops. He is the owner of Thimble Island Ocean Farm, and Executive Director of the non-profit Greenwave, which trains the next generation of ocean farmers.

Smith has been featured on 60 Minutes and in The New Yorker. His ocean farm won the Buckminster Fuller Challenge for ecological design, and, in 2017, was named one of TIME magazine’s Best Inventions.
