Catherine Oberg

Executive Director and Founder Emeritus

Catherine Oberg is the Founder and Executive Director Emeritus of The Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center, a community-supported independent cinema and cultural center serving over 20,000 patrons annually.

With 17 years of experience in film programming, nonprofit leadership, and cultural institution building, she has raised more than $1.8 million through grants, sponsorships, and community partnerships, building a sustainable, mission-driven organization that integrates cinema, education, and public engagement.

Her work centers on curating impactful film programming—including independent, international, and socially engaged cinema—and developing initiatives that amplify underrepresented voices, such as the Love Wins Film Festival and Voices Rising Film Festival.

She has collaborated with internationally acclaimed artists, including Isabella Rossellini, on special screenings, post-film discussions, and fundraising initiatives that expand cultural visibility and deepen audience engagement.

Prior to founding The Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center, Catherine worked in film and television production, with projects broadcast on HBO, PBS, CNN, Discovery Channel, and Channel 4. Her work includes contributions to the Academy Award–nominated documentary Lenny Bruce: Swear to Tell the Truth (HBO).
